ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE JOURNEY
HEBREW. 3:12-19; 10:19-25
1. Journey of Faith
3:14, “We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.”
ILL. Israel in the Wilderness and the Church in the World.
2. Warnings and Exhortations (in Hebrews)
2:1 We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
3:12 See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
4:2 For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
10:26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,
10:22-23,35 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, … 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess,… 35So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
12:1 … let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
12:14 Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
12:15 See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
12:16 See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.
